The Oyo Surrounding Police Command has showed the arrest of Naomi Silekunola, the previous spouse of the Ooni of Ile-Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi.
That is following a appalling stampede at a kids’s carnival she arranged that came about on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, on the Islamic Top Faculty, Bashorun, Ibadan, and resulted within the loss of life of 35 minors, with six others seriously injured.
Police spokesperson Adewale Osifeso in a remark said that “eight persons have since been arrested for their various involvements” within the tournament.”
“Among those detained are Silekunola, aged 31, and Fasasi Abdulahi, the 56-year-old principal of the school.”

“The other individuals arrested include Genesis Christopher, Tanimowo Moruf, Anisolaja Olabode, Idowu Ibrahim, and Abiola Oluwatimilehin, with ages ranging from 25 to 52 years.”
The stampede has sparked an investigation, which has been transferred to the Murder Category of the Surrounding Prison Investigation Area.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police is chief the inquiry.
Osifeso confident the people that “justice will be served accordingly” and emphasised that police patrols can be heightened within the department to guard safety and forbid unrest.
The Oyo Police Command expressed sympathies to the households suffering from the tragedy and inspired citizens to stick peace, providing touch numbers for emergencies.
