The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (retd.), has commended Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno’s leadership. He described it as purposeful and impactful.
Musa stated this during a courtesy visit to the governor on Thursday at Government House, Uyo, according to a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Ekerete Udoh, on Friday.
Musa said he was impressed with the road network while driving across the state, saying the feats were not beyond reach.
He said he had been an ardent follower of the ARISE programmes, noting that what he had seen on the ground was evidence of a government committed to the people.
“My prayer is that others will also watch and see what has been done, and to know that these things are possible, it’s not rocket science,” he said.
Musa, who was in the state to deliver the convocation lecture at the combined convocation ceremony of Akwa Ibom State University, appreciated the governor for his warm reception and the opportunity to deliver the lecture, and commended him for delivering good governance in the state.
He noted that Akwa Ibom was peaceful because the people felt loved and cared for, and prayed that Nigeria would become as peaceful as it used to be, especially in the North.
On national security, he said, “President Bola Tinubu has done well, so part of the things we are doing to assist the government of the day is to put in the kinetic and non-kinetic energy.
“The kinetic means the use of force while the non-kinetic is good governance, which you are doing here in Akwa Ibom.”
He noted that everyone had a role to play in security management, and called on the public to collaborate with the government and report suspicious movements for more efficient security in the country.
Musa also commended Eno for supporting the 2 Brigade of the Nigerian Army and other security formations in the state, and assured them of the commitment of the different agencies to secure Nigeria and make it peaceful.
In his remarks, Eno appreciated the minister for accepting to deliver the convocation lecture and for the depth he brought to the subject matter.
He congratulated Musa on his appointment as Defence Minister earlier this year, saying he remained one of the most admired generals in the country.
Eno commiserated with the minister over the loss of military officers in some parts of the country, appreciated him for his efforts thus far, and appealed for more support to security formations in the state to boost their capacity.
He attributed the peace enjoyed in the state to the collaborative effort of security agencies, and assured of continuous support to enable them to deliver on their mandate.
Members of the minister’s team included Maj. Gen. Akinjobi (retd.), Brig. Gen. O.M. Azuikpe, Col. E.G. Usibe, Lt. Col. O.E. Okokon, Capt. R. Nom, Capt. A.B. Bature, WO Sunday E., and S. Sgt. Abdul.
