In the girls’ U-12 category, Adegoke defeated Akpan Mercy 4-1, 4-2, while Mohammed Naseer claimed a 5-3, 4-2 victory over Awi Rafael in the boys’ U-12 division.

In the U-16 category, Afaramai Heman secured a 4-2, 4-2 win over Aluko Nathaniel in the boys’ event, while Mofifun dominated Ogunkolade Bisola 4-0, 4-1 to clinch the girls’ title.

Speaking after the tournament, Tennista Foundation President Michael Nwoseh highlighted the growth of the competition, noting increased participation and improved facilities.

He revealed that over 60 players competed across categories, with the introduction of the U-12 division providing a platform for younger athletes to gain early exposure.

“Parents and coaches brought their kids from different parts of the country,” Nwoseh said, adding that the clay-court format also offered many participants their first experience on the surface.

“This will help strengthen their game and adaptability across different playing conditions,” he added.

Mofifun, the U-16 champion, expressed delight at her victory, stating that she focused on enjoying her game rather than chasing points.

She said winning the title, along with educational grants and other rewards, was especially meaningful after missing out in the previous edition.

The young champion also praised the organisers for creating a platform that motivates children to compete and build confidence, noting that the rewards, including a new racket, would further support her development.

Meanwhile, Director-General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Lekan Fatodu, represented by Oriyomi Oluwasanmi, emphasised the role of sports in youth development.

He noted that initiatives like the tournament help nurture discipline and reduce social vices, while also serving as a pipeline for discovering talents ahead of major national competitions, including the upcoming Under-18 National Sports Games in Lagos.

He encouraged both winners and participants to remain committed to training, stressing that consistency and discipline are essential for long-term success.

Winners at the tournament received prizes including educational grants, tennis rackets, school bags, and other items.
