Egypt to Bid for 2036 and 2040 Olympics

Egypt has announced plans to bid for the 2036 and 2040 Summer Olympics, leveraging the country’s growing infrastructure and sports facilities to make a strong case for hosting the event. This bid, confirmed by Mustapha Berraf, head of the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA), marks another attempt by Egypt after its unsuccessful bid for the 2008 Olympics. Berraf highlighted Egypt’s significant infrastructure investments, which include the Egypt International Olympic City complex, as signs it is ready to host the Games. The complex, which has been in development since 2015, will include a 93,900-capacity stadium and 21 sports facilities. Berraf also mentioned that another bid could come from Cape Town, South Africa. However, he did not disclose the particular year South Africa aims to bid for. Africa has never hosted an Olympic Games, but Berraf believes the continent has a strong chance, particularly for the 2040 Games.
