Yobe varsity appoints new VC, registrar



‎‎The Yobe State Government has approved the appointment of Prof. Mohammed Bashir Tahir as the substantive Vice-Chancellor of Yobe State University, Damaturu.

‎The approval was granted by the Executive Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni, following a recommendation by the university’s Governing Council at its meeting held on January 15, 2026.

‎This was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday and signed by the Chairman of the Governing Council, Alhaji Ahmed Goniri.

‎The statement read, “The Executive Governor of Yobe State, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, has approved the appointment of Professor Mohammed Bashir Tahir as the substantive Vice-Chancellor of Yobe State University, Damaturu, following a recommendation by the Governing Council of the university at its meeting held on January 15, 2026.”

‎Prof. Tahir is a Professor of General Surgery and a Fellow of the West African College of Surgeons. Until his appointment, he served as the Medical Director of the Ultra-Modern Police Hospital, Damaturu.

‎The PUNCH gathered that the newly appointed Vice-Chancellor will take over from Prof. Bukar Jamri, who was earlier appointed as the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the institution.

‎In a related development, the Governing Council also approved the appointment of Isa Dallari as the substantive Registrar of the university.

‎The statement added, “The Governing Council of Yobe State University has approved the appointment of Mallam Isa Audu Dallari as the substantive Registrar of Yobe State University, Damaturu, at its meeting held on January 15, 2026.”

‎It noted that the appointment followed a recommendation by the Selection Committee, in accordance with the Yobe State University Law, 2006 (as amended).

‎Dallari is currently a Director of Administration at Yobe State University, Damaturu.
