The Leading Vibe Initiative (LVI), founded by two-time GRAMMY® Award-winning artist Tems, successfully hosted its South Africa edition on March 21, 2026. This marks the initiative’s first activation in Southern Africa and its third on the continent.
Supported by global partners Hennessy and Native Instruments, the program brought together 20 emerging South African women artists, producers, and songwriters. The event also featured leading industry voices, creating a dynamic environment for creative exchange, mentorship, and professional development.
Held at Artistry in Johannesburg, the South Africa edition continued LVI’s mission to build a pan-African ecosystem that supports and amplifies women shaping the future of music. Through curated workshops, panel discussions, and collaborative sessions, participants engaged directly with industry leaders while expanding their creative and professional networks.

Insightful Conversations and Industry Expertise
The program opened with a session titled “The Power Behind the Vision: Strategy, Image & Creative Ownership.” This discussion explored key topics such as creative ownership, building effective teams, and navigating the business side of the music industry.
Moderated by Lerato Matsoso, the panel featured Jade Kelly, Tsenolo Africa, Manaileng Maphike, and Bonnie Meslane. The speakers shared insights drawn from their experience across management, publishing, legal, and public relations sectors.
Participants also took part in focused masterclasses and workshops led by DJ Tsegu, Kay Faith, Elaine, Muyiwa, Zee Nxumalo, Thando Zide, and Wale Davies. These sessions covered essential areas including artistry, songwriting, music production, and the evolving global music business landscape.
Real Conversations and Artist Experiences
A standout moment of the day was the session titled “If I Could Tell Her,” which featured candid discussions on navigating the realities of the music industry. The panel included globally recognized South African artists Moonchild Sanelly, Uncle Waffles, Zoe Modiga, and Kamo Mphela.
The program concluded with an intimate fireside chat featuring Tems alongside Tsehaitu “Tubi” Retta. During the conversation, Tems reflected on her journey as an artist and shared the vision behind the Leading Vibe Initiative.
The day ended with a celebratory industry mixer, featuring music sets by Tinx Eboka and Shamiso.
Expanding Across Africa
The South Africa edition represents another milestone in LVI’s growing pan-African and global footprint. Following its inaugural launch in Nigeria and expansion into Kenya, the initiative continues to connect emerging women in music across the continent.
By building a strong community of artists, songwriters, and producers, LVI equips participants with the tools, mentorship, and networks needed to thrive in the industry.
Hennessy reaffirmed its commitment to supporting African creativity through its partnership with LVI.
“We are proud to partner with Tems by supporting the Leading Vibe Initiative, as part of our mission to stand beside the communities and creators who shape culture in Africa and across the world,” said Vincent Montalescot, Hennessy Global Chief Marketing Officer.
As part of the program, Native Instruments provided participants with the latest music production tools and technology, reinforcing its commitment to expanding access to professional-grade resources for emerging creators.
Looking Ahead
As the initiative continues to grow, the Leading Vibe Initiative remains focused on creating opportunities that empower women to shape the future of the music industry across Africa and beyond.
