- Phophi Ramathuba was elected as Limpopo chairperson in an uncontested conference at the Pietersburg Cricket Club, along with four other provincial executive members.
- She becomes the second-ever woman to hold a provincial chairperson position in the ANC.
- Mandla Ndlovu was re-elected as the chairperson of the ANC in Mpumalanga.
Limpopo Premier Phophi Ramathuba has become the ANC’s second-ever woman provincial chairperson in the history of the party, following in the footsteps of the late Edna Molewa, who was elected chairperson in the North West in 2004.
The ANC in Limpopo is currently holding its elective conference at the Polokwane Cricket Club, and the party’s top five officials were elected on Friday evening.
In the uncontested conference, John Makoro Mpe was elected deputy provincial chairperson, Musanda Reuben Madadzhe was elected provincial secretary, Pule Shayi was elected deputy provincial secretary, and Eddie Maila was elected provincial treasurer.
The ANC congratulated Ramathuba on what it called a “historic election”.
Meanwhile, the ANC in Mpumalanga also elected provincial leaders uncontested at Mbombela Stadium.
More than 700 delegates attended the event, where four of the five provincial leaders were re-elected.
Mandla Ndlovu was retained as the chairperson, Speedy Mashilo as the deputy provincial chairperson, Muzi Chirwa as the provincial secretary, and Nompumelelo Hlophe as the deputy provincial secretary.
Mbombela Mayor Sibongile Makushe-Mazibuko is the only newly elected member of the Mpumalanga ANC’s highest political structure.
Makushe-Mazibuko steps into Mandla Msibi’s shoes after his removal from the structure in 2024.
Msibi failed to reach the required threshold.
He was considered to be a strong ally of the late former deputy president, David Mabuza, and a point man in Mpumalanga.
