The Premier League has once again cemented its reputation as the world’s most extravagant football league, with the 2025 summer transfer window proving to be another record-breaking spectacle. As clubs battle for supremacy, they have gone all out to secure elite talents to set the stage for what promises to be a thrilling season.

According to data from Transfermarkt, Premier League clubs have spent a staggering £1.63 billion (€1.87bn) since the window opened in June. Last season’s top four clubs feature heavily among the big spenders, with Manchester United, despite finishing 15th, emerging as a surprise force in the market.

More than £1 billion of the total expenditure has come from the league’s traditional “Big Six”: Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, and Tottenham.

Florian Wirtz – £116m (including add-ons) To Liverpool

Liverpool smashed their club transfer record to land German attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz for £116 million, including £16 million in add-ons.

Wirtz, regarded as one of Europe’s brightest talents, directly contributed to over 120 goals during his time at Leverkusen, highlighting why the Reds were willing to break the bank.

Hugo Ekitike – £79m (including add-ons) To Liverpool

Another blockbuster addition for Liverpool, Hugo Ekitike joined for a fee rising to £79 million, with £10 million in bonuses.

The 23-year-old French striker agreed to personal terms and passed his medical, becoming a key part of Liverpool’s revamped forward line.

Bryan Mbeumo – £71m (including add-ons) Man United

Bryan Mbeumo called his move to Old Trafford “a dream come true” after sealing a £71 million switch. United paid £65 million upfront, with another £6 million tied to performance clauses. The winger signed a five-year deal with an optional extension.

Viktor Gyökeres – £63.5m (including add-ons) To Arsenal

Arsenal beat several clubs to sign prolific Swedish striker Viktor Gyökeres in a £63.5 million deal. The Gunners paid £55 million upfront, with the rest in add-ons. Gyökeres netted 54 goals in 52 games last season, including a Portuguese Cup final strike and a Champions League hat-trick against Man City.

Matheus Cunha – £62.5m To Man United

Manchester United triggered Matheus Cunha’s £62.5 million release clause to make him the first signing under new manager Rúben Amorim.

The Brazilian forward scored 31 goals in 76 games for Wolves since joining from Atlético Madrid.

João Pedro – £60m (including add-ons) To Chelsea

Chelsea made João Pedro one of their marquee signings for £60 million.

The 23-year-old Brazilian impressed in his debut season at Brighton after a £30m move from Watford and has now signed an eight-year deal at Stamford Bridge.

Mohammed Kudus – £55m To Tottenham

Mohammed Kudus joined Spurs for £55 million, with a six-year contract running until 2031. The Ghanaian international registered 13 goals and 12 assists in 65 league appearances for West Ham.

Speaking on his new manager, Kudus said, “Thomas Frank has developed some incredible talent, and that’s a big reason why I wanted to work under him.”

Anthony Elanga – £55m To Newcastle United

Newcastle United added strength to their attacking options by landing Anthony Elanga for £55 million. The Swedish winger, 23, had a breakout season under Nuno Espírito Santo at Forest, scoring six goals and providing 11 assists.

Jamie Gittens – £51.5m (including add-ons) To Chelsea

Chelsea continued their youth-focused approach with the signing of Jamie Gittens from Dortmund. The Blues paid £48.5 million upfront, with £3 million in bonuses. The 20-year-old England U21 star had 17 goals and 14 assists in 107 appearances for the Bundesliga club.

Martin Zubimendi – £51.3m (including add-ons) To Arsenal

Arsenal triggered Martin Zubimendi’s £51 million release clause to secure the Spanish midfield anchor. The 26-year-old has signed a five-year deal after making 236 appearances for Sociedad, where he built a reputation as one of La Liga’s most consistent performers.
