The Oyo State Police Command has intercepted a truck conveying materials suspected to be explosive devices during a stop-and-search operation in Saki.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the police spokesperson, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, said the interception followed intelligence gathered by security operatives and described the operation as successful.
According to the police, the truck and the 42 items suspected to be explosive materials were immediately secured and taken into custody. Olayinka said the Commissioner of Police in the state, Femi Haruna, ordered an immediate and comprehensive investigation after being briefed on the development.
Specialised officers from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit and the Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Unit were deployed to handle the materials and ensure they were safely secured for forensic examination.

The police said forensic analysis is already underway to establish the exact nature of the items and determine their intended use, alongside a broader investigation into the circumstances surrounding the interception.
The driver of the truck has been taken into custody and is assisting investigators as inquiries continue.
The command reassured residents that there is no cause for alarm, stressing that security agencies remain fully in control of the situation. It added that members of the public would be kept informed as investigations progress.
The police also expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for what it described as continued operational support and leadership.
The interception comes amid heightened security operations across several states, following recent seizures of suspected explosive materials and illicit drugs in other parts of the country.
