The Delta State Police Command has apprehended a suspected armed robber and kidnapper who attempted to conceal a fabricated Beretta pistol inside a loaf of bread.

In a statement released on Saturday, 8th November 2025, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, said the arrest was made by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) during a routine stop-and-search operation at Koka Roundabout, Asaba, on 6th November 2025, at about 8:45 a.m.

According to the statement, the suspect, identified as Nnamdi Stanley Chibuike, aged 24, from Ogbeowele Quarters, behind General Hospital, Asaba, was flagged down after exhibiting suspicious behaviour.

A careful search led to the shocking discovery of a locally fabricated Beretta pistol cleverly concealed in a loaf of bread.

Chibuike was immediately arrested and taken into custody, while the weapon was recovered and secured as an exhibit.

Police investigations are ongoing to establish his connection with reported cases of armed robbery and kidnapping within Asaba and its environs.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, lauded the RRS operatives for their alertness and professionalism, describing the discovery as another success in the Command’s intelligence-led policing strategy.

“This operation demonstrates our unwavering commitment to tackling crime through vigilance and intelligence.

“Criminals may devise creative ways to conceal their activities, but we will continue to stay ahead of them,” CP Olufemi said.

He further appealed to residents of Delta State to remain security-conscious and promptly report suspicious persons or movements, assuring that all information shared with the Command would be treated confidentially.

The Delta Police Command reiterated its resolve to make the state unsafe for criminals while strengthening public trust through effective community policing and prompt response to distress calls.
