PHOTOS: Tinubu receives full military welcome in Brasília during Lula visit

President Bola Tinubu was accorded a full military welcome on Monday during his official visit to Brazil, where he met with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva at the Planalto Palace in Brasília.

A meticulously drilled guard of honour ushered in the Nigerian leader in a colourful ceremony, reflecting the significance of the bilateral engagement.

During the visit, President da Silva formally welcomed Tinubu, exchanged pleasantries, posed for photographs, and introduced his ministers.

Tinubu reciprocated by presenting his delegation, largely composed of cabinet members.

Following the ceremonial activities, the two leaders held a private discussion, followed by broader bilateral talks with key ministers from both nations and the signing of Memoranda of Understanding.

Tinubu, who arrived in Brasília earlier on Monday, reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to deepening diplomatic and economic ties with Brazil.

In a post on his official X account, he described the meeting as a strategic moment in Nigeria-Brazil relations, saying:

“Today’s engagement marks the renewal of the historic relationship between Nigeria and Brazil. I look forward to working with President Lula to deepen cooperation in agriculture, energy, trade, and culture, towards building a future of shared prosperity.”
