Kingmakers in Oyo have unwelcome the appointment of Prince Abimbola Owoade because the unused Alaafin by way of Governor Seyi Makinde.
The kingmakers described the appointment as unlawful and inexact.
Previous on Friday, the situation govt introduced that Makinde authorized the appointment of Owoade because the unused Alaafin of Oyo, two years next the placement was vacant.
Reacting to the inside track in a letter to the governor, signed by way of their legal professional, Adekunle Sobaloju on Friday, 5 Kingmakers from Oyo declared the appointment inexact, noting that they didn’t counsel Prince Abimbola Owoade to the situation govt.
They insist that their selected candidate for the Alaafin used to be Prince Luqman Adelodun Gbadegesin.
The Kingmakers, who made this declaration come with Top Prominent Yusuf Akínade, Bashorun of Oyo; Top Prominent Wakeel Akindele, Lagunna of Oyo; Top Prominent Hamzat Yusuf, Akinniku of Oyo; Chíef Wahab Oyetunji, a warrant eminent stand-in for Asipa of Oyo, and Prominent Gbadebo Mufutau, warrant eminent stand-in for Alapinní of Oyo.
The letter reads, “You are going to recall that on thirtieth September 2022 on the assembly of the Kingmakers in response to the Alaafin of Oyo Chieftaincy Declaration, 1961, the Kingmakers appointed Prince Lukman Adelodun Gbadegesin because the Alaafin of Oyo by way of majority of the lawful votes of the Kingmakers.
“Prince Lukman Adelodun Gbadegesin having obtained the majority of votes of the Kingmakers present and voting was deemed appointed and his name was forwarded to your Excellency as the candidate appointed by the Kingmakers as Alaafin of Oyo for your approval which you refused to approve for no disclosed reason at all. The Kingmakers thereafter filed an action to stop your excellency from truncating the process, culminating in the present appeal at the court of appeal,” the letter learn.
“Any assembly of few kingmakers and disaster warrant chiefs held on the Governor’s place of work at the ninth of January,2025 or somewhere else on the example of the Commissioner for Native Govt and Chieftaincy Affairs, to choose the most well liked candidate of the Governor because the unused Alaafin is not just opposite to the local regulation and customized and Chieftaincy Declaration of Alafin of Oyo Chieftaincy however illegal, unlawful, inexact, nil and void.
“It is not the duty of the Governor to convene the meeting of few kingmakers and emergency warrant chiefs to select or appoint a new Alaafin on the 9th of January, 2025 and hurriedly approve the appointment on the 10th of January, 2025.”
