Oyebanji’s campaign council seeks 500,000 votes for APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) 2026 Governorship Campaign Council in Ekiti State has disclosed plans to secure no fewer than 500,000 votes for the re-election of Governor Biodun Oyebanji in the June 20, 2026 Poll.

Cyril Fasuyi, the newly appointed Director-General of the Campaign Council and Senator representing Ekiti North Senatorial District, made this known shortly after a meeting of the Council where his appointment was formally announced in Ado-Ekiti, the State capital.

Addressing journalists on Wednesday, Fasuyi, who served in the same capacity during the 2022 election, appealed to residents of Ekiti State to reciprocate Governor Oyebanji’s performance in Office with massive support at the polls.

He argued that the political landscape in 2026 would be markedly different from that of 2022, citing the achievements of the Oyebanji administration as a major factor expected to drive increased voter participation.

According to him, with over 900,000 registered voters in the state, the party’s projection of 500,000 votes is both realistic and attainable, even if voter turnout falls short of its peak.

The federal lawmaker emphasised that the target is a strategic projection rather than an overestimation, noting that it does not suggest total voter dominance over opposition parties.

According to him, “The situation in 2026 will not be the same as what we saw in 2022. The administration of Governor Biodun Oyebanji has been very outstanding in the last three and a half years. Definitely, the strategy to achieve 500,000 votes will also differ.

“The governor never said there were only 500,000 registered voters. The registered voters are around 800,000. So if out of 800,000 voters we are targeting 500,000 votes, I don’t think that is a big deal.

“It would have been different if we had 400,000 voters and we said we wanted to achieve 500,000. We are also not saying we want all 800,000 votes, which would mean nobody would vote for the opposition. If you check the percentage, it is achievable.”

Fasuyi added that the APC remains confident of surpassing its target despite concerns over historically low voter turnout recorded in the last three governorship elections in the State.
