The Niger State Police Command has arrested two suspected burglars in separate operations across the state and rescued 10 kidnap victims during a joint security operation in different parts of the state.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, Wasiu Abiodun, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday.
According to Abiodun, operatives of the B Division, Suleja, arrested a suspect, Ahmed Jibril, following complaints of repeated house breaking and theft reported by about 13 residents of the Rafin-Senyi/Kwata area of Suleja.
The police said the victims reported that between November 2025 and January 24, 2026, the suspect had repeatedly broken into their homes and carted away valuables.
He continued, “Upon receipt of the complaint, police operatives, through the aid of technical intelligence, arrested the suspect.
“During interrogation, he confessed to the crimes and led police to his father’s uncompleted house in Suleja, where several stolen items were recovered.”
Items recovered from the suspect, according to the police, included bed mattresses and frames, gas cylinders, a wardrobe, a standing fan, rugs, cooking utensils, clothes, footwear, household appliances, tools, and other personal belongings, all of which were identified by the victims.
Abiodun further stated that the suspect “confessed to selling some of the stolen items to receivers in Madalla,” adding that investigations were ongoing to arrest the receivers and recover other items.
He said the suspect would be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of an ongoing investigation.
In a similar development, Abiodun stated that operatives attached to the ‘A’ Division, Bida, arrested another suspect, Sani Ndagi, in connection with a house-breaking and theft incident.
He noted that unknown persons were reported to have broken into a residence and stolen a giant power generator, two medium generators, and two air conditioner compressors.
“Following investigations, one Sani Ndagi of the Sabon-Gida area of Bida was arrested in connection with the crime. He confessed to the offence, and all the stolen items were recovered,” the statement added.
The police also said one Aliyu Umar, 45, of the Tsawatamukum area of Bida, was arrested for allegedly receiving one of the stolen compressors, adding that both suspects have been taken into custody while investigations continue.
Meanwhile, the command said a joint security team rescued 10 abducted victims during an operation in Mariga LGA.
According to Abiodun, the rescue occurred on February 1, 2026, when security operatives “intercepted and engaged suspected kidnappers in a gun duel” at Mai-Laka village along the Bangi–Kotonkoro road.
“During the gun battle, the abductors abandoned the kidnapped victims and fled the scene. About 10 victims from Yauri, Dusai, Dogon-Fadama, and Yabawa villages were rescued,” the police said.
The police added that some motorcycles believed to belong to the fleeing suspects were recovered, while clearance operations and monitoring of the area had been intensified.
The Niger State Police Command reiterated its commitment to tackling crime and urged residents to continue providing timely information to security agencies to aid ongoing operations.
