Man City title hopes dented after West Ham draw

Manchester City suffered another setback in the Premier League title race after a 1–1 draw with West Ham United on Saturday, leaving them nine points behind leaders Arsenal.

Bernardo Silva gave City the lead in the first half, but Konstantinos Mavropanos equalised for West Ham before the break at the London Stadium.

The result came just hours after Arsenal scored twice late on to secure a 2–0 win over Everton, piling more pressure on second-placed City as they struggle to keep pace with the Gunners.

Although City still have a game in hand, the dropped points leave Pep Guardiola’s side facing an increasingly difficult path in the title race.

Consecutive draws against relegation-threatened West Ham and Nottingham Forest have exposed persistent flaws in a squad that has undergone costly rebuilding over the past 18 months.

City must now quickly regroup ahead of a crucial run of fixtures. They face Real Madrid in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League last-16 tie on Tuesday, needing to overturn a 3–0 deficit.

That clash will be followed by the EFL Cup Final at Wembley against Arsenal and an FA Cup quarter-final meeting with Liverpool. Their next league games after the cup ties are also daunting fixtures against Chelsea and Arsenal.

By the end of that demanding five-match run, City could be staring at the prospect of a second consecutive season without major silverware.

For West Ham, the point proved significant as it lifted them out of the relegation zone for the first time in 100 days, moving them one point above Nottingham Forest.

City’s struggles at both ends of the pitch were evident again. Erling Haaland continued his lean spell, scoring only three times in his last 12 league matches and making little impact despite starting alongside Omar Marmoush in attack.

Despite dominating possession for long spells, Guardiola’s side failed to seriously trouble West Ham, raising further questions about City’s form at a crucial stage of the season.
