Lagos Vows Crackdown on Illegal Parking in Computer Village

The Lagos State Parking Authority has warned individuals and syndicates involved in illegal parking extortion in the Computer Village area of Ikeja to desist or face prosecution.

The agency said it uncovered a racket involving fraudsters allegedly working with touts to collect unauthorised parking fees from motorists within the busy commercial hub.

The General Manager of LASPA, Adebisi Adelabu, disclosed in a statement uploaded on the state government’s handles that illegal operators in the Ikeja under-bridge and Computer Village axis have been charging unsuspecting drivers as much as ₦1,000 to park their vehicles.

She noted that some of the affected motorists later face additional penalties when enforcement teams clamp down on improperly parked vehicles, remove number plates, or tow them away, leading to further financial losses.

Adelabu stressed that the regulation and management of parking operations in the area do not fall under the Lagos Central Business District or any group of touts.

“We are aware of these fraudulent activities, and we want to make it clear that LASPA is the only government body legally mandated to oversee parking in Lagos State,” she said.

Condemning the development, she added, “These illicit activities are a disservice to the public and an embarrassment to the efforts of the State Government at creating a seamless and orderly parking ecosystem.”

She said the agency had intensified its monitoring and enforcement operations across Computer Village and other parts of the state.

Adelabu warned that perpetrators would be arrested and prosecuted, urging motorists to remain vigilant and only engage authorised operators.

“Motorists should ensure they deal only with LASPA-registered operators who can provide valid identification and official receipts,” she said.

The authority also urged members of the public to report suspicious activities through its official communication channels.
