The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has presented certificates of return to the newly elected chairmen, vice chairmen, and councillors of local governments and local council development areas (LCDAs) in the state.
At a ceremony held to mark the occasion on Wednesday, LASIEC Chairman, Justice Bola Okikiolu-Ighile, commended the electorate, stakeholders, and over 45,000 ad-hoc staff for their active participation and dedication throughout the electoral process.
He acknowledged initial accreditation delays but praised the swift and effective support of security agencies across the state, which ensured public safety remained a top priority.

The certificates of return signify the beginning of a new era of political journey for the elected officials, who are expected to serve the people of Lagos State for the next four years.
LASIEC affirmed that the new officials’ tenure will begin as the current administration concludes on July 26, 2025.
Speaking to BusinessDay, the Ajeromi local government chairman-elect, Orebo Akindikpe Olaleko Olu, pledged to build on the achievements of the current chairman, emphasizing continuity and accountability to their development blueprint.
He revealed plans to tackle food insecurity by launching a subsidized food distribution initiative, “Ounje Ajegunle,” to reach every ward weekly. Akindikpe also promised to sustain the annual security summit and ensure all roads in the local government are fully tarred.
Also speaking to BusinessDay, the chairman-elect of Ikeja LGA, Akeem Olalekan Dauda, said he would go back to the people of his LGA, meet with them and kick-start his agenda, which would focus on opening up rural areas and providing infastructure.
He promised to give attention to education and primary health, especially women and children.
The chairman also pointed out that his administration would work to take out-of- school children off the streets, especially those trading, while improving the environmental sanitation of the council.
Dauda further pledged to tackle poverty, through economy empowerment of people at the grassroots in Ikeja.

Similarly, the chairman-elect of Ikorodu LGA, Lateef Adedayo, said his administration would focus on education and completion of the rural roads that the out going administration embarked on.
He pledged to work with federal government to open up the council and focus on empowerment, vocational skills to tackle unemployment in the council.
The Lagos State government has tasked the newly elected chairmen and councillors with the responsibility of serving the people and delivering on their campaign promises.
The presentation of certificates of return marks the beginning of their new journey, and it is expected that they will work tirelessly to justify the trust placed in them by the electorate.
