Lagos Gets Its Moment. Again — This Time, It’s Black Coffee. | Africa News

The Grammy-winning architect of afro house—the artist who carried the continent’s sound to Ibiza, New York, Amsterdam, and São Paulo—arrives in Lagos. One night. One city. One unmissable moment.

There is a version of the electronic music conversation in which Lagos doesn’t exist. M:E Entertainment, alongside DAPO, have spent the past two years dismantling that narrative—and on Sunday, April 5, 2026, they are set to make their most definitive statement yet.

Lagos has long been celebrated as the undisputed capital of Afrobeats, a city whose sound has conquered global charts and reshaped how African music is perceived worldwide. But beneath that dominant story, another movement has been steadily rising. In clubs, warehouses, and intimate late-night spaces, a thriving community of electronic music enthusiasts has quietly positioned Lagos as one of Africa’s most vital hubs for house music.

M:E Entertainment didn’t discover this scene—they amplified it.

In March last year, their landmark Rampa Lagos event set a new standard for live entertainment in Nigeria. Featuring surprise appearances from Burna Boy and Olamide alongside internationally acclaimed DJ Rampa, the event signaled to the global music community that Lagos had far more to offer than its already dominant Afrobeats identity.

Now, they are ready to take things even further.

M:E Entertainment and DAPO are bringing Black Coffee to Lagos. The Grammy Award–winning DJ and producer, born Nkosinathi Innocent Maphumulo in Durban, is widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in electronic music. He has carried Afro house from Johannesburg to some of the world’s most iconic stages, including Ibiza’s DC10 and New York’s Avant Gardner, cementing his place as a global ambassador for the genre.

This moment represents more than just a headline performance—it is a cultural exchange. South Africa introduced Afro house to the world; Lagos is now embracing and redefining it on its own terms, in its own spaces, and for its own audience.

April 5 marks the convergence of these two powerful musical narratives.

Reflecting on the journey so far, M:E Entertainment shared:

“When we did Rampa, no one could quite believe the way Lagos responded. The energy, the hunger, the sheer electricity of that crowd—it told us everything we needed to know about what this city is capable of. Now we’re building on that. When people look back at how Lagos became a global electronic music destination, April 5 will be one of the nights they point to.”

As Lagos continues to evolve sonically, this event stands as a defining milestone—one that may ultimately rewrite its place in the global electronic music conversation.
