The Super Eagles dominated much of the first half but were unable to extend their advantage before the break.
Head coach Eric Chelle made changes at half-time, introducing debutant Emmanuel Fernandez. The impact was immediate.
Six minutes into the second half, Ademola Lookman provided a clever assist for Akor Adams, who finished with composure to make it 2–0.
Further substitutions saw Chibuike Nwaiwu make his debut, while fresh legs helped maintain Nigeria’s intensity.
Iran responded through Mehdi Taremi midway through the second half, setting up a tense finale. However, Nigeria managed the closing stages effectively.
Substitutes including Paul Onuachu, Chidera Ejuke, and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru helped the team retain control, while Frank Onyeka featured late on as the Super Eagles saw out the win.
The result marks Nigeria’s second-ever victory over Iran, following their 1998 Carlsberg Cup win, while their last meeting at the 2014 FIFA World Cup ended in a draw.
Chelle’s side will now turn attention to their next fixture against Jordan on March 31, as preparations continue ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
