How Global Instability Could Affect Africa in 2025 – Africa.com

The year 2025 brings many uncertainties for the African continent amid a shifting global political and economic landscape. Russia’s war in Ukraine continues without an end in sight. Likewise, the US anticipates an unpredictable Donald Trump presidency, and two of the continent’s largest trading partners in the EU – France and Germany – are battling domestic political crises. Notably, the potential trade war between a Trump-led US and its competitors, like China, could indirectly affect Africa’s supply chains and the cost of goods. However, while Trump’s first term largely overlooked Africa, China’s strong ties to the continent and the expanding BRICS bloc may create new opportunities for economic partnerships. Domestically, Africa is experiencing political shifts following major elections in 2024. Long-dominant parties lost power in Senegal, Ghana, and Botswana, signaling growing demands for economic progress over legacy politics. Still, disputed elections in Mozambique highlight ongoing challenges on the continent.
