Ashaku Abbo, a former senator representing Adamawa North, says God has directed him to leave the All Progressives Congress (APC), admitting that his earlier defection from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in 2020 was made without spiritual guidance.
Abbo, who spoke in a personal reflection shared with the public, said he regretted moving to the APC based purely on “human judgment” and political calculations, without first seeking divine direction.
“I left PDP for APC in 2020 without praying or seeking God’s direction. I acted purely on tangible reasons, human judgment, and the desire to go with the tide,” he said.
The former lawmaker disclosed that he recently concluded a 31-day fast and prayer session, during which he sought divine guidance for his political future and other aspects of life. He said an official statement on his next political step would follow consultations with close associates and community stakeholders.
“This time around, I have undertaken 31 days of fasting and prayers, seeking directions. Among other things, I asked God to reveal His will for me,” he said. “A tentative official statement will be issued soon after due consultations with my people on what the Spirit told me. I am no longer moved by sight, sweet words, emotions or mere instincts. I am now led by the Spirit of God and calm-spirited negotiations.”
He concluded his statement with a scriptural reflection, stressing unity and divine guidance:
“The Lord God directs the steps of the righteous. Good morning and Jumaat Mubarak to all Muslim faithful. Remember, both Prophets Ishmael and Isaac are children of Abraham.”
Abbo’s remarks signal a shift from instinctive political decisions to what he describes as a spiritually guided approach, as Nigeria braces for fresh political realignments ahead of future elections.
