The Federal Government has confirmed that Nigeria is working closely with the United States and other international partners in a structured security and intelligence collaboration that has resulted in precision airstrikes on terrorist targets in the North West of the country.
In a statement issued on Friday by Kimiebi Ebienfa, Spokesperson of the ministry in Abuja , the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the cooperation forms part of ongoing efforts to address the persistent threat of terrorism and violent extremism confronting Nigeria.
According to the ministry, the partnership with the United States is anchored on intelligence sharing, strategic coordination and other forms of support conducted in line with international law, mutual respect for sovereignty and existing bilateral understandings between both countries.
The ministry explained that the engagement reflects established international practice in counter-terrorism operations and is aimed at strengthening both national and regional security while responding effectively to evolving security threats.
It stressed that Nigeria’s counter-terrorism strategy remains firmly guided by the protection of civilian lives, the preservation of national unity and the defence of the rights and dignity of all citizens, regardless of religion or ethnicity.

“Terrorist violence in any form, whether directed at Christians, Muslims or other communities remains an affront to Nigeria’s values and to international peace and security,” the ministry stated.
The Federal Government also reaffirmed its commitment to working with partners through recognised diplomatic and security channels to weaken terrorist networks, disrupt their sources of financing and logistics, and prevent cross-border threats that undermine stability.
In addition, the ministry said Nigeria is intensifying efforts to strengthen its own security institutions and intelligence capabilities as part of a broader strategy to sustainably address terrorism and violent extremism.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that it will continue to engage relevant international partners and keep the public informed through official channels as security operations and diplomatic engagements evolve.
