FG closes case against Nnamdi Kanu in terrorism trial

The Federal government on Thursday concluded its case in the ongoing trial of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), over charges related to terrorism and treasonable offences.

Adegboyega Awomolo, SAN, counsel to the Federal Government, announced this after the fifth prosecution witness (PW-5), identified as EEE for security reasons, was led in evidence and cross-examined by Kanu’s lawyer, Onyechi Ikpeazu, before Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Awomolo informed the court that after presenting five witnesses, the prosecution was confident that the substantial body of evidence submitted including broadcasts linked to the activities of the IPOB leader was sufficient to warrant the closure of its case.
Accordingly, I close the case,” the senior lawyer declared.

Following the announcement, Kanu Agabi, lead defence counsel, told the court that the defence intended to file a no-case submission, which would be submitted in due course.
