Ecobank to host landmark exhibition celebrating Nigeria’s art masters

Ecobank Nigeria will later this month open a major art exhibition titled “Enduring Legacies: A Collector’s Tribute to Masters”, featuring rare works from some of the country’s most celebrated visual artists. The exhibition opens on Saturday, August 30, and will run until September 21, 2025, at the Ecobank Pan African Centre in Victoria Island, Lagos.

The show brings together a collection of works from artists whose careers have helped define Nigeria’s visual identity and contributed to the wider recognition of African art. Among the featured names are Bruce Onobrakpeya, Twins Seven Seven, Kolade Oshinowo, Muraino Oyelami, Moses Unokwah, Jimoh Buraimoh, Rufus Ogundele, Oyerinde Olotu, Lamidi Fakeye, Sam Ovraiti, Ben Osawe, Tola Wewe, Ini Brown, Alex Nwokolo, and Tony Enebeli.

Curated by art historian Adekepemi Aderemi, the exhibition draws from a private collection owned by KrabHouse. Organisers say it provides a rare opportunity for the public to engage with seminal works that have until now largely remained out of view.

For the curator, the initiative is about reconnecting with “the visionary minds who laid the foundation for Nigeria’s vibrant visual culture.” KrabHouse, the collector behind the works, described the exhibition as a way of ensuring that these pieces are seen and remembered, rather than locked away.

The event also fits into a wider pattern of Ecobank’s involvement in Nigeria’s art scene. In recent years, the bank has supported exhibitions at its Pan African Centre that highlight both established and emerging artists. It has also partnered with cultural organisations to promote access to visual art and provide a platform for creative voices across Africa.

The exhibition will run daily from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and is expected to attract art lovers, cultural custodians, collectors, and scholars.
