Daniel vows legal action over Abiodun’s demolition threat in Ogun

…Ex-gov urges Tinubu to call Abiodun to order

…Govt asks Daniel to go for title documents regularisation

Steve Oliyide, Media aide to Gbenga Daniel, ex-governor of Ogun State and Senator, representing Ogun East, on Monday, said legal action might be taken over the planned demolition of the Asoludero Court, the Sagamu GRA Private Residence of the former governor; Conference Hotels and its annexe, owned by the former governor.

The ex-governor’s aide also said that Governor Dapo Abiodun “does not have the moral right to serve contravention order on anyone in the State because his Private Residence along Iperu-Ode Road also runs foul of setback rule on the highway and it should have been the first property to go down in the State for the infraction.”

Oliyide, however, insisted that the planned demolition of the former governor’s properties is nothing but clear political persecution and witch-hunting being orchestrated by Governor Abiodun and would be resisted within the ambit of the law.

Oliyide also said that “the properties of the Senator in the GRA have requisite approvals and all of these are in the Government’s custody, yet the Government is claiming ignorance because of its ulterior motive to attack the former governor for no just cause.”

Oliyide, while addressing journalists on Monday at the Asoludero Court in Sagamu, called for the intervention of President Bola Tinubu warning that the action of Governor Abiodun suggested that he had decided to throw the State into avoidable chaos and crisis

He explained that “The whole action is even against the 2022 Urban and Regional law of the State which they are even quoting to back their dirty and sordid job. Which part of this law says that it is the same day that you serve the contravention notice that you must also serve the quit notice which says that the properties would be demolished after three days.

“We are even asking for the contraventions they are talking about but there is none. All that they were talking about were based on suspicion yet no new construction is going on in any of these properties.

“Even if the Government had suspected anything, the right thing to do is for the Government to give us a demand notice and tell us to furnish them with relevant information on those area of suspicion within stipulated time and which we would have gladly complied with.”

Meanwhile, the Ogun State Government has advised former governor, Gbenga Daniel, to approach the Zonal Office of the Ogun State Planning and Development Permit Authority, in Sagamu, for regularisation of documents on his Private Residence and his hotel facilities.

Tunji Odunlami, State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, while addressing journalists at the Olusegun Osoba Press Centre in Abeokuta, on Monday, denied the sealing off of any properties belonging to Daniel.

A notice of sealing issued from the Zonal Office, dated August 11, 2025, according to the Commissioner, had been withdrawn forthwith.

He explained that the urban renewal initiatives of Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration were not to witch-hunt any individual in the State but a routine procedure that necessitates an audit of Government lands in Sagamu GRA or any other parts of the State.

Odunlami, therefore, advised the former governor to approach the Zonal Office in Sagamu and present permit and other documents for verifications, adding that the verification of the permit status had also been carried out on Government Reservation Area in Abeokuta, and that the same exercise was being carried out in Sagamu and Ijebu-Ode, while Ota and Ilaro would be next.

Odunlami said, “It is a simple and transparent approach which is known and adopted the world over including most States in Nigeria.

“What we are currently doing is no exception. This exercise had been done in Abeokuta and is now extended to Sagamu and Ijebu-Ode, where there is no fuss except this only one. It is still going to be carried out in Ota and Ilaro, where we also have GRAs.

“The exercises is a verification of the permit status of all types of development including houses , schools, hospitals and other commercial buildings. The owners of such properties were served due notices to approach the Ogun State Planning and Development Permit Authority an Agency of the Ministry of Physical planning and Urban Development to present relevant documents in conformity with existing building laws and regulations.

“It is pertinent to note that this is a daily, routine, and ongoing activity of this agency and is devoid of witch hunting, and therefore not designed to harm the interest of any individual.”
