Grammy-winning rapper Cardi B has revealed she is expecting a baby with her boyfriend, New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs.
The “Bodak Yellow” star confirmed the news during an interview with Gayle King on CBS Mornings, released Wednesday, Sept. 17.
“I’m having a baby with my boyfriend Stefon Diggs,” Cardi said, marking the couple’s first child together. The pair went public with their relationship earlier this year.
The pregnancy follows Cardi’s highly publicised split from rapper Offset, with whom she shares three children — daughters Kulture and Blossom, and son Wave.
Speaking with King, the 31-year-old artist said she feels both empowered and supported during this new chapter of her life.
“I feel like I’m in a good space. I feel very strong. I feel very powerful that I’m doing all this work. But I’m doing all this work while I’m creating a baby,” she said, adding that Diggs has been a constant source of encouragement. “People were coming at me very hard, but he makes me feel very confident.”
Cardi admitted she experienced moments of anxiety amid the pressures of her upcoming album rollout. “Two weeks ago I was literally having a panic attack… just because I was getting really nervous with, you know, the whole album rollout,” she shared.
With her trademark humour, the rapper also turned her announcement into a rallying cry for fans to support her sophomore album, Am I the Drama?
“Now y’all could buy my album so I can buy Pampers and diapers and all that type of stuff,” she joked. “Go support my album, ’cause I’m a mother of four now.”
Cardi also revealed that she delayed making the news public until she could “close some deals first” and confessed she has yet to inform her parents, quipping that she’s “scared of them.”
Her pregnancy comes after weeks of speculation, fueled by recent public appearances and pointed questions from journalists.
Cardi had previously brushed off the rumours at one point, tossing a pen at a pushy reporter outside a Manhattan courthouse, but she says she’s now ready to embrace the moment.
Despite earlier doubts about falling in love again after her divorce, Cardi said Diggs encouraged her to give him a chance.
“Let me heal you. Give me a chance for me to heal you,” she recalled him saying.
With her relationship thriving and her album ready for release, Cardi B told King her music feels complete:
“I feel like it touch every little thing that I want to touch. And I just feel like it’s something that is not out there right now.”
