CAF reduces Morocco sanctions after appeal

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) Appeal Board has reduced financial penalties imposed on the Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football (FRMF) and amended sanctions against Moroccan midfielder Ismaël Saibari following an appeal.

CAF confirmed that Saibari was found guilty of misconduct under Articles 82 and 83 of its Disciplinary Code.

However, his punishment has been revised to a two-match suspension, with one game suspended, while the initial fine imposed on the player has been scrapped.

The appeal concerning the ball boys’ incident was partially upheld, with CAF maintaining that the FRMF is responsible for their conduct. The federation’s fine for that incident has been reduced to $50,000.

CAF also ruled on the laser incident, partially upholding the appeal and reducing the fine to $10,000. However, the appeal regarding interference around the VAR review area was dismissed, with the original sanction against the Moroccan federation upheld.

“All other motions or prayers for relief are dismissed,” CAF stated.

The ruling comes amid broader fallout from the controversial AFCON final, where CAF also awarded the 2025 AFCON title to Morocco after ruling that Senegal forfeited the match, which was officially recorded as a 3–0 victory for the Atlas Lions.
