Aston Villa complete £18.25m signing of Tammy Abraham

Premier League club Aston Villa have completed the signing of England striker Tammy Abraham from Turkish side Besiktas in a deal worth £18.25 million.

The 28-year-old has signed a four-and-a-half-year contract with the Premier League title challengers, returning to English football for the first time since leaving Chelsea for Roma in 2021.

Abraham had been on loan at Besiktas from Roma. Still, the Turkish club activated their £11 million buy option earlier this week, paving the way for Villa to complete the transfer for a fee of €21 million (£18.25m).

Villa manager Unai Emery had been in the market for a striker to provide support and competition for Ollie Watkins and has long admired Abraham, who previously enjoyed a successful loan spell at Villa Park during the 2018/19 season.

The forward scored 26 goals in 40 appearances that campaign, playing a key role in Villa’s promotion from the Championship.

“Some clubs play a big part in your journey and stay with you,” Abraham said.

“I’ve scored goals, faced challenges, and grown as a player and as a man. I’m back at Aston Villa, ready to work and give everything.”

As part of the deal, teenage Villa midfielder Yasin Ozcan, who has spent this season on loan at Anderlecht, will join Besiktas.

Abraham, who has earned 11 caps for England, previously moved to Roma from Chelsea in 2021. He spent last season on loan at AC Milan before joining Besiktas this term, scoring 12 goals in all competitions.
