Asisat Oshoala leaves Bay FC to join Saudi Arabia club Al Hilal

Super Falcons striker Asisat Oshoala has completed a move to Saudi Women’s Premier League side Al Hilal from National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) club Bay FC.

According to ESPN, the six-time African Women’s Footballer of the Year has signed a two-year contract with the Riyadh-based club after finalising her medical on Monday.

Oshoala only joined Bay FC ahead of the 2024 NWSL season, following a trophy-laden five-year spell at Barcelona.

She made 23 starts in 25 matches during the expansion club’s debut campaign, scoring seven goals and providing one assist. However, her minutes were limited this season, starting just five of 12 matches without a goal contribution before her departure.

Bay FC sporting director Matt Potter paid tribute to the Nigerian forward.

“Asisat has been an incredibly important part of Bay FC history, not only with her impact on the pitch but also through the energy, professionalism, and kindness she brought every day. She is a world-class player and an even better person, and we are grateful for everything she contributed to our club in its first season. We wish her nothing but success as she takes this next step in her career with Al Hilal.”

The 30-year-old leaves Bay FC after 38 appearances in all competitions, scoring eight goals.

Oshoala’s career has taken her from Nigerian clubs Robo and Rivers Angels to European football, where she played for Liverpool and Arsenal before a stint in China with Dalian Quanjian. She then joined Barcelona in 2019, where she enjoyed her most successful spell, winning five consecutive Liga F titles and two UEFA Women’s Champions League trophies.

On the international stage, she has won four Women’s Africa Cup of Nations titles with Nigeria, most recently in 2024, and remains one of Africa’s most decorated female footballers.

Her move to Al Hilal marks a major signing for the Saudi Women’s Premier League, with the Riyadh club looking to improve on their sixth-place finish last season.
