The All Progressives Congress in Anambra has assured members of its commitment to deliver free, transparent, and inclusive congresses.
The Chairman, Harmonisation Committee for the Wards and Local Government Congresses of the party in the state, Uche Ekwunife, gave the assurance in a statement issued in Awka and made available to newsmen on Tuesday.
The statement was signed by her Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Tony Ezike.
Ekwunife stated that the committee would resist all attempts to impose individuals or groups as party executives in the state.
She, therefore, assured party members and the public that the process would be conducted in accordance with the APC constitution.
She said that credibility, transparency, inclusiveness, and fairness would remain the guiding principles throughout the exercise.
Ekwunife described congresses as a democratic exercise, saying that the committee’s terms of reference were explicit in guaranteeing equal treatment for all party members.
According to her, the party has given us a clear mandate, and we are determined to discharge that responsibility diligently and fully respect the rights of party members to vote and be voted for.
“The process must reflect the core value of democracy in order to produce executive committees capable of meeting the party’s political expectations.
“This is a democratic process, and all members must be treated equally and fairly.
“Only through such openness can we constitute party executives that will truly serve their purpose,” she said.
Ekwunife said the growth and stability of the party in Anambra depended on orderly engagement, respect for party organs, and strict adherence to due process.
She urged all the stakeholders to avoid inflammatory statements and allow the party’s internal mechanisms to function effectively.
“This committee remains resolute in its commitment to conduct a harmonisation process that will strengthen the party, restore confidence among members, and deepen internal democracy in Anambra,” she said.
