The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for the Nov. 8 Anambra election, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, has assured of addressing insecurity, revitalizing the economy, and community development, if elected.
Addressing the media on Friday night in Awka, Ukachukwu said the state needed transformative leadership anchored on security, infrastructure, and inclusive economic growth, as nothing is presently working in the state.
“If I become the Governor of Anambra State, I will restore the confidence Anambra was known. I will ensure that the youths of the state apply think home philosophy, ensure industrial development and sustainable job creation,” he said.
According to him, security of lives and property is the most challenging issue facing the state, no society could make it in the absence of peace and stability.
“Insecurity remains the greatest threat to our development. Our people are no longer returning home, and investors are scared to do business here. Companies are not springing up because of fear, and fear kills enterprise,” he lamented.
Outlining his priorities, the APC candidate also promised reliable electricity, agricultural transformation, and infrastructure renewal.
He revealed plans to harness the natural gas deposits in Ayamelum area for power generation, describing electricity as the “engine of economic development.”
“Electricity is central to any meaningful transformation. We will tap into our gas reserves to generate power, but with a people-first approach. The energy infrastructure will be owned by the people, not government monopolies. We want the people to take ownership, economically and psychologically,” he said.
Ukachukwu promised a comprehensive upgrade of the healthcare system, make available health centres in every community and a general hospital in each local government area.
Ukachukwu also pledged to recruit highly qualified medical personnel for effective healthcare delivery.
“Healthcare is not a luxury; it’s a right. We must stop treating it like a privilege for the few. Under my administration, every citizen will have access to basic and specialized healthcare,” he said.
Reassuring the electorate of his commitment, Ukachukwu vowed to restore Anambra’s pride as the “Light of the Nation.”
“I have invested heavily in Anambra because I believe in this state. I plan to retire in my village. My commitment is personal. Investors are staying away because things are not working, but when we fix the system, companies will come, and our youths will be employed again,” he said.
He further expressed confidence in divine providence, adding: “I believe strongly in divine grace. If it is God’s will that I become Governor, no force on earth can stop it.”
