Alex Iwobi becomes most-capped Nigerian player in Premier League history

Alex Iwobi has set a new milestone in his career by becoming the Nigerian player with the most appearances in Premier League history.

The historic moment came during Fulham’s clash against his former club, Arsenal, at Craven Cottage.

Iwobi, who featured for the full 90 minutes in the match, has now amassed 299 Premier League appearances, surpassing Shola Ameobi’s previous record.

The achievement is particularly symbolic, as it came almost exactly 10 years after Iwobi made his Premier League debut, also for Arsenal, in a match against Swansea City on October 27, 2015. Facing his old club in this record-setting game brought his journey full circle.

Top 5 Nigerian Players by Premier League Appearances:

1. Alex Iwobi – 299 appearances

2. Shola Ameobi – 298 appearances

3. Nwankwo Kanu – 273 appearances (Arsenal, West Bromwich Albion, Portsmouth)

4. Yakubu Aiyegbeni – 252 appearances

5. John Obi Mikel – 249 appearances

Iwobi’s consistency and longevity in England’s top flight reflect his quality and adaptability across different clubs, including Arsenal, Everton, and now Fulham. His record further cements his legacy as one of Nigeria’s most influential players in Premier League history.
