The Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, has disclosed plans by means of the Federal Govt to, upon of completion of development and renovation, toll the Lagos-Ibadan freeway and alternative main roads within the nation.
Umahi disclosed this on Thursday in Abuja right through an inter-ministerial press briefing, as a part of actions to mark Nigeria’s sixty fourth self determination yearly.
“We have the Lagos-Ibadan (expressway), we are completing it and we are tolling it,” he mentioned.
Alternative roads to be tolled, in keeping with the minister, are the 2d Niger Bridge, Abuja-Kano street and Makurdi ninth Mile, amongst others.
Umahi mentioned non-public sector contributors had been in demand “to bring in funds, construct these roads, work with the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission and the Ministry of Works to toll these roads.”
The minister mentioned the federal government will get started with the Keffi-Makurdi Highway that has been finished, declaring that his ministry has been attractive with the Ministry of Finance for a paperless method of cost.
“For example, we are completing the Lagos-Ibadan, we are working on Makurdi to 9th Mile in Enugu State, we are working from Abuja to Lagos. These roads are going to be tolled. But, we are not just tolling them, we are bringing confidence in the use of these roads,” Umahi mentioned.
