
The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a suspected kidnapper and rescued his victim in Isua Akoko, the headquarters of Akoko South-East Local Government Area of the state.
It was gathered that the victim, whose identity had not been revealed, was abducted by three men on a farm but escaped after fighting and injuring one of them on the head.
In a statement issued by the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, on Tuesday, the matter was being handled by the anti-kidnapping unit of the command for further investigation.
Jimoh said, “On the 10th of April, 2026, one Ahmadu reported at the Isua Division that two young men had gone to Ipesi Akoko for cattle rearing, but one of them did not return home. Acting on the report, the police immediately initiated a coordinated intelligence-driven operation, which led to the successful rescue of the kidnapped victim.
“The victim narrated that he was abducted at night by three suspected kidnappers. During the incident, while trying to resist his captors, he inflicted a head injury on one of the suspects.
“Acting swiftly on credible information obtained from the victim, operatives of the Isua Division mobilised and stormed Obasanjo Motor Park, Isua, at about 0609hrs, where a suspicious individual with a visible head injury was apprehended.”
The police spokesman further stated that the suspect had confessed to being part of the kidnapping gang, while the victim had identified the suspect, “particularly noting the injury inflicted on him.”
“The victim has since been taken to the hospital for medical attention, while the suspect has been transferred to the anti-kidnapping unit for further investigation and will be charged in court upon conclusion of the investigation.”
Recall that on Monday, residents of Imoga Community in Akoko Edo Local Government Area arrested a kidnap kingpin, Ismaila Ibrahim, who was identified by one of his escaped victims, Mallam Jamilu, a cow dealer in Ibillo.
The National Coordinator of the Movement for the Advancement of Akoko Edo People, Bode Ekundayo, said the suspect was arrested on Thursday, and one other person had also been arrested after making a confessional statement.
