US and Iran reject each other’s proposals to end war

US President Donald Trump said Iran had made a “significant proposal” to end the war, but that it was not enough to satisfy Washington.

“They made a proposal and it’s a significant proposal, it’s a significant step. It’s not good enough, but it’s a very significant step,” Trump said during the White House Easter egg roll on Monday.

Iran said earlier on Monday that it had rejected what it called a US ceasefire plan.

He said the war could end “very quickly” if the Iranians “do what they have to do. They have to do certain things. They know that.”

The regime has been negotiating “in good faith,” he added. “The people that we’re negotiating with now on behalf of Iran are much more reasonable.”

Trump reiterated that Tuesday was his final deadline for an agreement. So far the Iranians “just don’t want to say ‘uncle’ [surrender]”, he said, but “they will”.

He added: “If they don’t, they’ll have no bridges, they’ll have no power plants, they’ll have no anything.”
