Yira Sor relishes Super Eagles call-up ahead of Iran clash

Nigerian winger Yira Sor has expressed delight following his maiden invitation to the Super Eagles, describing the call-up as a “dream come true.”

The KRC Genk forward was named in a 23-man squad by head coach Eric Chelle for Nigeria’s upcoming international friendlies in Turkey.

The fixtures, initially scheduled for Amman, were moved to Antalya due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. Nigeria will face Iran on Friday before taking on Jordan on March 31.

Sor said he is eager to make an impact with his pace and attacking qualities.

“I am a player with pace, and I enjoy link-up play. I hope to bring energy and creativity to the team,” he said.

The winger added that he is fully focused on contributing to the team’s success.

“I want to give my best and contribute to the team’s objectives. Every opportunity matters at this level,” he said.

Reflecting on his journey, Sor admitted the invitation came as a surprise, having only recently supported the team during the Africa Cup of Nations.

“Just a few months ago, I was watching the team on television, feeling nervous and cheering them on. My invitation is unexpected but rewarding; I attribute it to hard work and faith,” he said.

“To be honest, it was a big shock. I am grateful for the opportunity and thankful for how far I have come.”

Sor also emphasised the pride that comes with representing Nigeria.

“Playing for a country of over 200 million people is a privilege. I will give everything on the pitch. I will push myself to the limit and contribute positively whenever I am called upon,” he added.
