Impact-based warnings

Yellow Level 4 warning: Severe thunderstorms with heavy downpours leading to flooding of low-lying areas, susceptible roads and bridges as well as large amounts of small hail and strong damaging winds leading to damage of infrastructure, settlements, vehicles and livestock are expected in the northeastern parts of KwaZulu-Natal.

Yellow Level 2 warning: Severe thunderstorms with heavy downpours leading to localised flooding of low-lying areas, susceptible roads and bridges as well as large amounts of small hail and strong damaging winds leading to localised damage of infrastructure, settlements, vehicles and livestock are expected over Gauteng, Mpumalanga, the eastern parts of the Northern Cape as well as the western parts of KwaZulu-Natal.

In the SAWS’ colour-coded weather warning system, yellow indicates a moderate risk of impact that requires caution and awareness, while orange indicates that higher-risk impact is expected, requiring increased attention and preparation.
