Sanitation Push: Egbe–Idimu LCDA deploys new compactor to tackle waste challenge

The Executive Chairman of Egbe–Idimu Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in Lagos State, Idris Balogun, has intensified efforts to maintain a cleaner and healthier environment across the council area with the deployment of a newly acquired waste compactor aimed at strengthening refuse evacuation and sanitation.

The initiative, which forms part of the administration’s broader environmental management strategy, has seen sanitation teams actively evacuating refuse along major streets and key locations within the LCDA.

The newly introduced compactor has significantly boosted the council’s capacity to remove accumulated waste and restore order in areas previously affected by indiscriminate dumping.

The exercise is being carried out under the supervision of the Executive Chairman, Balogun (Oluomo Kafata), with the support of the Vice Chairman,  Omotayo Ayinde, as part of ongoing efforts to improve environmental hygiene and promote public health within the community.

Speaking on the development, the chairman emphasized that maintaining a clean and healthy environment remains a key priority of his administration.

“A clean environment is essential for healthy living. Our administration is committed to ensuring that Egbe–Idimu LCDA remains clean, safe, and conducive for all residents.

The deployment of the new compactor is part of our deliberate effort to strengthen waste management and improve sanitation across our communities,” he said.

Balogun further explained that the sanitation exercise reflects the long-term vision of the council to build a culture of environmental responsibility among residents.

“We are not just evacuating refuse; we are building a culture of environmental responsibility. Our goal is to ensure that every street, every neighbourhood, and every public space within Egbe–Idimu reflects the standards of a modern and well-managed community,” he added.

The administration has also received strong institutional support in ensuring the success of the sanitation drive. The Vice Chairman, Ayinde, has continued to provide support, while the Chief of Staff, Lukmon Idowu, and the Secretary to the Local Government (SLG), Semiu, have been actively involved in coordinating the exercise.

The legislative arm of the council, led by the Leader of the House,  Anike Hassan, alongside other councillors, has also backed the initiative, reinforcing the council’s collective commitment to improving sanitation and environmental management across the LCDA.

Residents have been urged to support the council’s efforts by adopting proper waste disposal practices and cooperating with sanitation authorities, as the administration remains focused on sustaining a cleaner and healthier environment for all.
