Plateau ADC commences membership revalidation, issues guidelines to aspirants

Jos -The Plateau State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has intensified its build-up to the forthcoming Local Government elections and the 2027 general polls with the rollout of a comprehensive Membership Revalidation, Mobilisation and Registration (MRMR) exercise.

The initiative, unveiled at the Party’s state secretariat in Jos over the weekend, is designed to update the Party’s register, strengthen its grassroots base and streamline participation in its internal electoral processes.

State Leader of the Party, Solomon Dalung, told members that the revalidation exercise would serve as the foundation for the Party’s direct primaries.

He made it clear that only members whose registration is properly documented and who possess valid ADC membership cards would be cleared to vote or contest in the primaries.

“Our internal democracy begins with credible membership,” he said, stressing that compliance with the registration guidelines would not be compromised.

On preparations for the local government elections, Dalung disclosed that the Party’s National Headquarters has forwarded nomination guidelines and forms to the Plateau chapter for onward distribution to aspirants seeking to contest Chairmanship and Councillorship positions.

He explained, however, that detailed procedures regarding the nomination process would be formally communicated by the State Chairman, Sam Gyang, after consultations with Party stakeholders.

Dalung also informed members of an impending engagement between the State leadership and the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission to harmonise modalities ahead of the polls.

Warning against sharp practices, the Party leadership advised members not to purchase forms or membership cards from unauthorised persons.

Dalung described such actions as tantamount to giving money to impostors, noting that the official registration process would be conducted through clearly defined structures at ward, local government and state levels.

He reiterated that presentation of a genuine membership card would be compulsory for accreditation during the direct primaries.

The Party further expressed concern over alleged attempts by rival political interests to infiltrate its ranks through the procurement of membership cards, assuring members that safeguards had been put in place to protect the integrity of the process.

State Chairman Sam Gyang and chairmanship aspirant Mangut Peter both expressed confidence that the revalidation drive would consolidate the Party’s position and enhance its prospects in the council elections and the 2027 general elections.
