The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested 23 suspects in a midnight raid targeting at known criminal hideouts and black spots within Ibaka fishing port in Mbo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom.
The operation, which took place between last week Wednesday and Thursday, was carried out by operatives of the Command acting on credible intelligence.
According to Timfon John, the Police Public Relations Officer, several identified black spots were thoroughly searched, leading to the arrest of 23 male suspects, including Sampson Newstyle, Godgift Benabinte, Michael Asukwo, Prince Ene, Goodnews Asukwo, Golden Edu, and 17 others.
During the operation, the Police recovered large commercial quantities of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, chemically enhanced variants of the same substance, illicit locally-brewed alcoholic drinks, as well as containers and devices used for inhaling hard drugs.
She disclosed that investigations are ongoing to determine the level of involvement of the suspects in criminal activities and to uncover other individuals connected to the drug network operating within the area.

Meanwhile, the Police have assured residents and visitors that the Ibaka axis remains calm, noting that enhanced patrols and surveillance have been deployed to forestall any resurgence of criminal activities.
Reaffirming its zero-tolerance on drug abuse, trafficking, and all forms of criminality, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command warned that sustained operations would continue across the State until all criminal black spots are dismantled.
The Police urged members of the public to continue supporting law enforcement efforts by providing timely and credible information that would aid in maintaining peace and security across the State.
