EPL: Man City beat Wolves to return to winning ways

Manchester City returned to winning ways with a comfortable 2–0 victory over bottom-side Wolves in a Premier League fixture at Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

First-half goals from Marmoush and Antoine Semenyo helped Pep Guardiola’s side put their shock Champions League defeat to Bodo/Glimt behind them while bringing an end to Wolves’ five-game unbeaten run in all competitions.

City had endured a difficult start to 2026, failing to win any of their opening four league matches. Guardiola opted to rest key players Erling Haaland and Phil Foden, leaving both on the bench, with the pair introduced in the second half after City had already taken firm control.

Wolves set up defensively with a five-man backline, but City asserted their dominance early, carving out chances almost at will in the opening exchanges.

New signing Marc Guéhi nearly marked his debut with a goal inside five minutes, but his back-post header was comfortably gathered by Wolves goalkeeper José Sá.

City took the lead moments later when Marmoush stabbed home Matheus Nunes’ whipped cross from close range. Semenyo soon went close, latching the ball over the top, only for his first-time effort to be smothered by Sá.

The hosts doubled their advantage on the stroke of half-time, effectively sealing the result. Bernardo Silva threaded a sharp pass into Semenyo, who finished calmly from the edge of the area. The winger later struck the crossbar in the second half as City continued to dominate.

Wolves offered little in response, although Yerson Mosquera clipped the crossbar with a flicked header late on. Rob Edwards’ side have now won just once all season and sit 14 points adrift of safety.
