…NEC meets to review FG proposal
The Federal Government has proposed a 40 per cent salary increase for members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), in what appears to be a major step toward averting another nationwide shutdown of public universities.
Government negotiators reportedly presented the offer to ASUU’s National Executive Council (NEC) during a meeting held in Abuja, marking one of the most significant wage proposals to university lecturers in recent years.

The proposal is part of renewed efforts by the government to address lingering issues that have strained relations with the union, including welfare concerns, funding gaps in public universities and the implementation of previous agreements.
ASUU’s NEC is expected to subject the offer to internal review before the union’s negotiation team reconvenes with the government for formal bargaining sessions.
Union officials say the review will determine whether the proposal aligns with the demands of its members, who have long complained about poor remuneration and deteriorating conditions in public universities.
