Sule Lamido, former Jigawa State Governor, has issued a 10-day ultimatum to the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to resolve what he described as deepening internal crises within the party.
He also called for the immediate dissolution of the Ibadan Elective Convention and the urgent establishment of a caretaker committee to steer the party ahead of its next primaries, as a way forward for the party.
Lamido issued the ultimatum Thursday, in Kano, while addressing hundreds of his political followers, including former local government chairmen, commissioners, and other political appointees, who served under his administration in Jigawa state.
The former governor expressed regret over the current state of the PDP, claiming that the crises rocking the party are linked to efforts to sideline founding members like himself. “The problem today is that outsiders have captured the PDP, pushing aside its original owners,” he lamented.
He explained that his recent court actions were not aimed at securing personal control of the party, but at preserving its legacy and protecting his fundamental rights, which he said had been violated.
Lamido also emphasised that the tenures of Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagun and National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu remained valid until December 8, 2025.
He warned that allowing the party to drift without clear leadership would endanger both current officeholders and aspirants preparing to contest elections on its platform in future elections.
“I am pushing for a caretaker committee and asking Wike, Damagun, and others to forgive one another so that a proper structure can be put in place,” he said.
He urged PDP leaders to convene a joint meeting to sincerely address the party’s challenges and restore it to stability. Lamido also called on his supporters to remain calm until December 8th, when he believes clearer developments will emerge.

In his address earlier, Babanbi Ibrahim, chairman of the Ex-Political Appointees Forum, disclosed that members of the Forum had met on the 18th of November, in which they took the decision to meet Lamido.
He said that the forum condemned the manner in which the leadership of the party has handled the issue of their leader without regard to his honour by denying him the right to contest the position of national chairman of the party.
“The PDP as a party is no longer a formidable platform at the national level as a result of the prevailing factions and consistent rancour and mistrust among its members. As loyal political children of His Excellency, Sule Lamido, do hereby mandate him in his wisdom to find a viable political platform that will permit us to pursue our dream of a greater Jigawa and Nigeria”, he stated.
