I am alive, hale, hearty, and in excellent health – Obiano

…this rumour has no basis

The former governor of Anambra state Willie Obiano, says he is alive, hale, hearty, debunking his rumoured death.

In a statement on Friday he personally signed, Obiano said: “I woke to hear of a rumour making the rounds about my wellbeing. Let me assure you personally:

“I am alive, hale, hearty, and in excellent health. By the special grace of God, I am doing very well.

“It is unfortunate that some individuals still find joy in spreading falsehood simply for reasons yet to be established. But we will continue to rise above such mischief.

“To everyone who reached out with calls, messages, and prayers, I sincerely appreciate your concern. Your love and goodwill mean more than words can express.

“Please disregard the rumour entirely. We remain focused, grateful, and guided by God’s grace. May God bless you all,” he said.

Recalls that Obiano’s rumoured death on Friday went viral on social media, raising concern and apprehension by his family, friends and well wishers

Meanwhile, the Commissioner for Information during the former governor’s regime, Mr C Don Adinuba has also helped to douse tension about Obiano’s rumoured passing away.

In a statement he signed, he said: “The Nigerian media have been abuzz in the last couple of hours over a rumour that the immediate Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, has passed on in London.

“This rumour has no basis. Chief Obiano lives in the Texas, United States, and not London.

“He is not just alive, but healthy, strong and too agile for someone who has just turned 70 years.

“We thank people from different walks of life across the globe, including leading international media like the BBC, for their acute interest in the former governor whose large heartedness and record of service delivery remain solid years by any standard.

“The outpouring of love across the globe following the rumour shows how much Chief Obiano matters to many, almost four years after leaving public office and choosing a quite private life abroad.

“At only 70 years, Chief Obiano has joined the pantheon of men like The Great Zik of Africa whose rumoured death turned out to be utterly false and without any foundation,” Adinuba stated.
