In a stunning display of speed and strategy, Kenya’s Geofry Toroitich Kipchumba emerged victorious at the 50th Amsterdam Marathon, setting a spectacular new course record of 2:03:30. The time, which smashed Kipchumba’s personal best, stands as the fourth-fastest marathon in the world this year, surpassing Ethiopian Tamirat Tola’s previous record. After a large pack of elite runners, including Olympic champion Joshua Cheptegei, stayed together for the first half, Kipchumba made a decisive and powerful move after the 33-kilometer mark. He broke away from the favorites and ran the final seven kilometers alone, proving unstoppable in his quest for the record. The women’s race was equally thrilling, with Ethiopia’s Aynalem Desta claiming a commanding win and a massive personal best of 2:17:37.
