My 70-year-old father was recently diagnosed with enlarged prostate which is responsible for his frequent urination. Shall we go for surgery?

It is expected that Prostate should increase in size as a man’s age also increases. Therefore, an enlarged prostate does not automatically require surgery; treatment depends on the severity of symptoms, their impact on your father’s life, and any developing complications.
Mild cases may only need lifestyle changes, while moderate symptoms might be managed with medication.
Surgery, including minimally invasive options and more traditional procedures, is reserved for when other treatments fail, or if complications like recurrent UTIs, bladder stones, kidney damage, or severe urinary retention occur. Therefore, as long as the enlarged prostate is not cancerous, it may not be necessary to consider surgery as a form of treatment.
