By Henry Umoru
ABUJA — The Benue State Caucus of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the National Assembly has formally endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as its sole candidate for the 2027 presidential election.
The group, comprising two senators and ten out of eleven APC House of Representatives members from Benue, is the first in the 10th National Assembly to declare support for President Tinubu’s re-election bid. The endorsement, they said, is in recognition of his administration’s developmental strides in Benue State.
Speaking on behalf of the caucus at a press conference in Abuja, Senator Titus Zam (APC, Benue North West) highlighted the president’s infrastructural, economic, and social interventions in the state. He was joined by Senator Emmanuel Udende (Benue North East) and the ten APC House members from Benue: Hon. Dickson Tarkigir, Hon. David Ogewu, Hon. Sesoo Ikpagher, Hon. Terseer Ugbor, Hon. Asema Achado, Hon. Philip Agbese, Hon. Sekav Iyoryom, Hon. Regina Akume, Hon. Blessing Onuh, and Hon. Solomon Wombo.
Senator Zam cited several federal government projects under Tinubu’s administration, including:
The 465-km Calabar-Ebonyi-Benue-Nasarawa-Abuja Superhighway.
Makurdi-Aliade-Otukpo-Enugu Road upgrade with a new flyover at Wurukum Roundabout.
₦83.8 billion Buruku Bridge across the Katsina-Ala River.
Dualization of 9th Mile-Otukpo-Makurdi Road.
Rehabilitation of the Oju–Cross River federal road.
He also pointed to major investments in education and healthcare such as:
Enhanced support for the Federal University of Health Sciences and its teaching hospital in Otukpo.
Establishment of the Infectious Disease Control Centre in Vandeikya.
Federal College of Agricultural Technology in Opialu Ojapo.
Launch of the North Central Development Commission (NCDC).
In the housing and economic sectors, the caucus listed:
250-unit Renewed Hope Housing Estate and 1,000-unit Pulaku housing initiative in Benue.
₦44 billion federal allocations to the state, comprising post-subsidy funds, infrastructure, and intervention grants.
While commending President Tinubu’s efforts to curb insecurity, the lawmakers urged Governor Hyacinth Alia to deepen collaboration with the federal government and security agencies.
“We believe the fight against insecurity cannot be left to the federal government alone,” Zam said. “We urge the state government to engage in more proactive intelligence gathering and community-based strategies.”
He reiterated the caucus’s commitment to legislative backing for policies aimed at restoring peace and rehabilitating displaced persons, especially farmers affected by violence in rural communities.
The Benue APC National Assembly Caucus reaffirmed its full support for President Tinubu’s leadership and pledged to work towards a peaceful, secure, and economically vibrant Benue State in partnership with the federal government.
