A peaceful protest has broken out in the Kaibo Mada community of Keffi Local Government Area in Nasarawa State, over an alleged plot to seize farmlands passed down through generations.
The protesters predominantly youths, took to the streets on Tuesday with placards and leaves, chanting songs that called for justice and urgent intervention from the Nasarawa State Government.
They accused the Sarkin Bagaji and the Emir of Keffi of planning to appropriate their ancestral lands without due process.
“These lands were inherited from our parents. Now, there’s an attempt to take them away without any legal justification. We urge Governor Abdullahi Sule to intervene and defend our rights,” said Malam Salihu Musa, a protester.
Hajiya Zainab Ibrahim, an aged woman in the crowd lamented that if their farms are taken away from them, how can they feed their children?
“This is unjust. We will not stop until the government takes action,” she added.
