Egypt Developing Gaza Reconstruction Plan that Does not Displace Palestinians

Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, the president of Egypt, has affirmed that his country is putting together a comprehensive strategy to rebuild the Gaza Strip without forcing Palestinians off their land. Sisi made this confirmation during a meeting with Ronald Lauder, the head of the World Jewish Congress, in Cairo. The Egyptian president also emphasized his country’s efforts toward maintaining the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Gaza. According to him, Egypt is making efforts to ensure the smooth exchange of hostages and prisoners and to facilitate the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza. Sisi also underscored the need for all parties to “act responsibly,” warning that any escalation would harm all sides. Central to achieving lasting peace, Sisi asserted, is the establishment of a Palestinian state in line with the June 4, 1967 borders. Meanwhile, Lauder commended Egypt’s leadership in Middle East diplomacy and pledged ongoing consultation.
